“Mom’s in an ambulance on the way to the hospital”
She had left me a message the night before about clipping the dogs nails. I was going to call her back after work.
Yet in one simple, life changing sentence, I began my journey into the wilderness.
Most of us don’t realize the moment we enter the wilderness of testing.
The most common clue you’re entering a desert is a life changing event such as a death in the family, a lost job, severe illness or injury.
Whatever the event, it can lead to a period of time where we feel disconnected and distant from God.
“At once the Spirit sent him out into the wilderness, and he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and angels attended Him.” Mark 1:12 – 13
Two takeaways:
1. Being Tempted is not a sin
We skim over this fact to see how Jesus dealt with temptation in the middle of his struggle.
BUT, we need to remember that Jesus was being tempted in the first place. All too often I talk with Christians who say that they are still being tempted by the sins that haunt them.
Being tempted is fine. What’s not fine is giving into temptations. Because Jesus was tempted, He can empathize in our struggles with temptations as a result.
MOREOVER, in His victory over temptation, we also have victory over temptation.
2. Angels Attended Jesus in His Struggle
We do not face our temptations alone.
[KiwiClickToTweet tweet=”God sends angels to care for us in the middle of our trials. Not afterwards! ” quote=”God sends angels to minister and care for us in the middle of our trials. Not afterwards! “]He doesn’t wait for us to finish the test before tending to our needs. He sends His angels to heal us as we work through the tough times in our life.
The thing about my mom’s death is that no one anticipated it.
In my journey through this wilderness, I’ve been tested in so many different avenues.
Every time I come to my wit’s end, I find the peace of God in the encouraging words of friends, the smile of my children, a beautiful day – I can see the angels attending to me in my wilderness when I look back on it and I’m grateful they’re there.
